What do you do when your partner is ill?

I'm talking about things like a sickness bug - which are contagious.

Ok, so I live with my partner and every time I get ill, she will naturally get the same illness within 2 days (or vice versa).

So even though we didn't share beds, cups, towels or anything. We didnt have any close contact just by living under the same roof we seem to pass on our illnesses. We spent quite a bit of time sitting on the sofa together (at opposite ends).

Do we just accept it then, that we a both always going to get each bug?

If you are ill and cough or sneeze then germs are in the atmosphere and spread.

I work as a teacher and am often surprised at how rarely I am ill. Considering the amount of children who are sent home sick on a daily basis with all manner of sickness bugs. I guess over the years I have built up a strong immune system to it all.

All you can do is eat healthily, keep warm and maybe consider taking a multi vitamin supplement.

We pretty much always pass bugs on to each other, despite giving each other a wide berth if one of us is ill.

When mr tc has a sickness bug I generally empty his sick bowl, take care of him and look after him like I do the kids.
It isn't often I catch the bug after him- maybe I have a strong immune system.

Me and OH both have lung conditions, me asthma, and him COPD, so we pass everything to each other even if we try and avoid it.

We've just accepted now that it's going to happen and don't bother trying to stop it. Sometimes a hug is all want when you are ill.

I agree with marisco - you'll never escape all the germs floating around so the best thing you can do is keep as fit as possible, eat healthily, and take vitamins (I take vitamin c and zinc whenever I'm surrounded by sick people) to build up your immune system. Stress is bad for your immune system too so you need to look after your mental health as well.

I don't tend to catch hubby's bugs after him.
He nearly always catches a bug though if I've had it first!

When I had noro virus last year hubby didn't catch it off me (amazingly as its SO contagious...) and we shared the same bed etc as normal. I was so sick I didn't doubt for a second he'd come down with it, but he didn't.

If one of us is ill, we just carry on as usual (im regards to sleeping, snuggling up on sofa etc) but its properly less then 50% of the time one of us catches something off the other one.

I never get anything from OH.. he has had some awful sicky bugs and we've shared a bed and the less revolting bodily fluid (kissing lol) and I still get nothing.. If I think about being ill he catches it, he gets everything the children get and a few more as well.. he is a right sicknote!!! Our 2 y/o gets everything going as well as does my 19 y/o ... the other 8 get nothing and they are banned from sicky bugs because I don't do sick so they get to clean up after themselves if they want to be gross.

I accept that I'm probably going to catch his lurgy and down the vit c and zinc tablets like Smarties. Part of living with someone is sharing things that one doesn't want to share.

He looks after me when I'm ill and is a brilliant nurse I must say and I look after him.

Sitting at opposite ends of the sofa won't make much difference.

We're lucky, I've lived with my OH for over 7 years and we have never got anything off each other. We don't do anything special if one of us is ill except we try not to kiss each other on the lips, but we often even forget to stop doing that . I have often worried what I would do if we were both ill at the same time as it would be difficult to look after each other.
