damaged goods - proof required?

If you sell some stuff to someone and send it to them, and they claim its damaged, can you demand a picture or proof that its damaged before you refund them? (It wouldnt be worth while sending back as postage would be high)

Demanding might be a bit strong but imo its a reasonable request that should not be unreasonably refused.
Usually in disputes/breach of contracts, each party is supposed to be reasonable in their conduct towards the other. Being unreasonable wouldnt win you any brownie points to say the least.
Whats the item and whats wrong with it? Are you the seller? Was it a private sale or were you acting as a business/trader?
A refund isnt the only option. You can also offer a reduction in price to take into account the diminished value. Can be beneficial to both parties especially if its relatively cheap to fix or a minor fault/damage.You keep using that word.
