Parking ticket and do not own the car anymore!

My girlfriend has just received a parking ticket from "smart parking"... The date and location of the parking offence took place was after the date we part exchanged the car in with a car dealership.

The DVLA either did not update their records in time or the ticket company did not get the details correctly.

We just rang up the company and to our surprise they said it was our responsiblity to sort it out!!!

the cheak!

Anyone else had this experience? any advice would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

dvla lost my transfer paperwork, have you had any confirmation from them that they have received and updated their records? Give them a call and check, I resent copies to resolve the issue with DVLA.

Sorry not much advice on the ticket

Complete rubbish, tell them the car was sold prior to the fake ticket was given, tell them via an email that you require them to cancel this ticket immediately, or give you a popla verification code within 35 days so you can take it to popla < https://www.popla.org.uk > where your first line of defence will be the fact that you are not liable for the ticket as you did own it at the time.

Fully agree with Stroma. For the sake of their "ticket" you just inform them that you were not the owner (registered keeper) at the time. It is the PPC's problem after that.

For your own benefit I would suggest that you check that the DVLA no longer have you as the RK if you haven't already done so.
  • I've checked with the DVLA and they confirmed I am no longer registered against the car.

How annoying that Smart Parking would not accept notice of this over the phone, and indeed were hardened and ambivalent and not inclined to sort out their mistake.

I have completed the appeal form on their site and given details of the garage I sold it to. Hopefully that will be the end of that.

Thanks for your replies (I asked for a popla number just in case).

Just to say popla is only for England and Wales , so if you have asked for it and in Scotland or N Ireland don't worry about it.
