Faulty Anglian door

We purchased an ANGLIAN GRP door in October 2012. We complained in January 2013 because it was peeling and chipping, they asked me to send them pictures of the door so they didnt have to send a manager out and said they would replace the effected part.
After 2 months of waiting the engineer arrived yesterday with the wrong part. He offered to retouch our door with paint. We refused because we feel that the door should be replaced.
Do we have to accept a repair?
* we are concerned the door is peeling after only 3 months of use, and we also feel that it should be durable enough to withstand day to day use. - (The engineer noticed we had a 13 year old inferred that she had damaged it.)

If the door is faulty, and they can prove that the fault is not inherent, then they do not have to provide a remedy.
If your warranty/guarantee includes accidental damage, maybe they are responsible.0 -
Thanks for your reply - So am I to understand that it is acceptable for a door to chip and peel after only three months? Surely the door is not fit for purpose. Assuming it is faulty do we have to accept a repair rather than replacement? We have white painted interior doors in our house and none of those are chipped and peeling. I imagined an exterior door would be more durable.0

I said that if the door is not inherently faulty then unless you have a guarantee/warranty that covers the fault, then it is your responsibility.ukangelaberry wrote: »Surely the door is not fit for purpose.
You were the one who mentioned the possibility of 'accidental damage' being an issue.ukangelaberry wrote: »Assuming it is faulty do we have to accept a repair rather than replacement?
That remedy could be either a repair, replacement or refund.
You can choose the remedy, but you cannot force the seller to to provide a disproportionately costly remedy. This effecively means that the seller can choose the least costly remedy.ukangelaberry wrote: »We have white painted interior doors in our house and none of those are chipped and peeling. If you want to explore more about your rights, can I suggest you read these two MSE articles:

To be fair, the OP said the Anglian guy inferred that the daughter had caused damage. OP did not say this, or even imply that she had caused any damage.
(Perhaps it's the way the OP is written).0 -
Hi ukangelaberry. Just read your post with interest and wondered how matters were resolved with Anglian. The reason I ask is I had a GRP door fitted by Anglian in January and guess what.. the paint has started peeling off it this week and is bubbling up around the glassed areas. I've got a manager coming out to see it next week.0

Hi Stag18 Sorry this is a bit late, for some reason I didn't continue to get updates from this thread. I hope that you have had your door fixed too.
I did eventually get my door replaced but only after kicking up a very big fuss. A new door was eventually fitted in July 2013. (7/8 months after I first started complaining). This only happened after numerous phone calls. I contacted them over 23 times, via phone, letter email. Anglian kept on saying they would do something about it, then nothing would happen.
Eventually I started posting pictures of there doors to Anglian's Facebook site, they didn't like that, but I did get a response. In the end I had to get the credit card company involved. Anglian then agreed to supply a new door.
By then the door was not functioning properly either, we couldn't unlock the door as it had not been fitted properly, the Knocker was also loose. And we discovered that the door step had not been fitted properly, it was coming away from the brickwork.
Even after agreeing to supply a new door they messed us around. They rang up on the morning of installation to tell us that the new door had failed an inspection test, and that they would order another. A month later I still hadn't heard anything, anyway when the door arrived it had a date on it, which was 2 months previous.
The door we have fits much better than the one before, they damaged it when the re-installed it, taking a huge chunk out the bottom as only one installer came to fit it- (2 man job to carry the door) and it has started chipping again. Wouldn't recommend there doors or customer service.0 -
We got new windows and a GRP door a few months ago. Anglian were one of the companies we enquired with but I didn't like their sales technique ("We can offer you 80% off" - to reach a price the same as their competitors; aye right) and ended up going with Universal Windows (fairly local company). We're happy with everything so far.0
