Virgin amex and visa credit cards

Options
£140 a year for the black version.

Currently got amex platinum so I'm wondering if I can switch. Friend of mine recently used virgin miles to upgrade flight to upper class.

I've always found that with things like airmiles its nigh on impossible to find flights for rewards travel or flights that let you upgrade.

Anyone comment on virgin? If I switch to the virgin black it'll cost me £140 a year (current platinum is nil) plus I get cashback at the moment - about £250 a year I reckon.

You need to cross compare the Black card with the AmEx Gold Rewards card as with it you get 2 MR points for areas like fuel, travel, supermarkets and there are fairly 50% bonuses on transfer to the VS scheme.

Depending on what you spend where etc it may give you more points and certainly more flexibility on what to do with points.

Obviously one key difference is that it is a charge card not a credit card so must be cleared in full each month.

With all schemes, it depends when you want to fly and how far in advance you book. If you want a last minute flight to Dubai in peak season it just isnt going to happen. If you book out of season, far in advance or on routes with many more services then your chances are much better

Do you mean the AMEX Platinum Cashback card? because the AMEX Platinum charge card has a £450 fee, the AMEX Platinum Cashback either has a £25 Annual fee or no fee depending on which one you have.

The Virgin Black/White cards are issued by MBNA so it's not a case of 'switching' from AMEX, you will ultimately be applying to Virgin/MBNA for the card.

OP is referring to Dual account Virgin Atlantic. It is a Credit card, so you don't have to clear in full, but I would always advise you do pay in full to avoid interest.

With regards to miles, you will earn double miles when you book with Virgin atlantic and you will meet your spend targets quicker than you will with the white (free) version, soo you have to weigh up which you will make the most of.
