Barclays Bank - Possibly employ an idiot...

Went to Barclays bank yesterday to close a deceased account as i'm the executor. Barclays say if the account has less than £15k in you don't need probate. I get called into a meeting to meet one of their senior bankers. He brings up the account details and goes
"Unfortunately because there is £11,500 in the current account and £3,000 in an ISA you will need probate as the total value is greater than £15,000".
I told him it was only £14,500 and he looked at me like I was an idiot and told me I was wrong. When I said I wasn't he got a calculator out put the two sums in then quietly gave me a form and asked me to leave.
I worry about the quality of their employment process.
Although I must say the other 2 Barclays staff I had to deal with both over the phone and in Branch were outstanding.

Had to deal with three diffrent banks following the death of a relative. Barclays were by far the worst and least helpful/sensitive so I can't say I'm surprised.0 -

I thought the bereavement centre on the phone were very good. Plus the first counter staff in a branch I went to in Cheshire was very nice. The only issue with her was as she was filling the form she was humming a happy little tune. Thankfully I was not close to the deceased so wasn't very emotional but I think if I had been the happy little tune would have annoyed meThis is a system account and does not represent a real person.
