No no-one can tell you if it will save you money...what do you currently use for heating and hot water?

What are your current fuel bills?

What is the cost of installation of the meter?

What is the cost of either altering the current boiler to accept natural gas or installing a new boiler?

Switching from LPG to natural gas will be the cheapest and worth considering.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

No, gas meters don't save anyone any money.

On the contrary, if the meter records gas consumption, then you will have to pay for said gas
You will probably also have to pay a daily standing charge even if you don't use any gas.
  • Thanks guys.

I'm still none the wiser as to what your question actually was.
Possibly a candidate for the most uninformative thread ever?

    things to take into consideration

The actual cost of having the pipework laid to your property from the street is likely to be at least 4 figures to start with.

Cost of gas appliances and the installation of those by a gas safe engineer again hundreds if not thousands especially in the case of central heating.

And that is before you pay for the gas you will be using. so upfront costs.

Once you gotten quotes for those then compare costs of your electricity or oil or lpg for running heating or cooking or both against cost of same on gas note down the differences then you can start work how long it will take to break even on the costs and then actually start saving money - I would hazard a guess that we would be looking as at least 4/5 years, but that would be the bare minimum.

But costs aside part of it is personal choice, I prefer gas for cooking and water heating though also have an electric shower and some electric heaters as well and an electric oven gas hob - so I can do a balancing act as well also if power cut can I can at least have hot water and cook on the hob and heat one room - but I aready had gas here and when I move I will be looking somewhere with gas already installed.

maybe they are connected straight onto the incoming supply pipe & felt it would be fairer to have a meter installed & pay for the gas
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

It is not clear if there is existing pipework there, if so whether or not he has had a live or dead check carried out by the appropriate gas network which is required before a supplier will install a meter .

Gas meters record consumption which is used to generate billing.

The item below will save you money...

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Yes I am already connected to the mains gas supply and I currently get a paper bill from my supplier. If a meter doesn't save money are there any benefits to having a pre pay meter instead of a paper bill. (I should have specified pre pay meter in the beginning, sorry for the confusion)

So, you already have a meter, otherwise how would the supplier know how much gas you've used?
Your question is actually if you can save money by changing the existing meter for a pre-payment one.
The short answer to that is no.
Just make sure you're on a competitive tariff by using a comparison site.
