Help needed- bank lost wages.

Options
HELP needed. My husband pays his wages via PayPal into Nationwide. Money (over $1k) never arrived. After going and growing Paypal agreed to put trace on and we have just received transaction ID numbers so called nationwide who have paid it to wrong person's account. They say they might not be able to get it back and if they do it's weeks away. We need the money for basic survival- rent and food. What do we do? Rent due NOW. They bounced school dinner cheque. It should have all been there accounted for.
We've got 4 small kids, 3 of whom have special needs, and have fought so hard to retain our independence and keep in work / private housing. We're scared.

We don't know, both PayPal and Nationwide blame the other party and say the other must sort it out. We're sort of stuck in the middle between tthe two floundering.

    Stupid question time....

Why transfer wages via paypal to a bank???

If the funds were in PP and you requested this to be paid to your bank account. It will be via details you had set up.

If it has gone to a wrong acc, then you will have to wait till the acc owner is contacted and advised that the funds are being reclaimed.

The only way in which I would have thought it reasonable for PayPal to be involved in the payment of wages is if the OP's husband is something like an online trader where the payments are received in his PayPal account, so to actually get his hands on the money it has to then be transferred to his bank account. However, as dalesrider has pointed out this relies on the account details set up by the OP, so I'm not sure how the finger of blame can be pointed at either PayPal or Nationwide.

If your husband sent it via Paypal to the wrong bank account (though I don't see how that can happen if it's already set up as his registered account in Paypal), then I'm afraid that there's no guarantee you'll get it back at all. Paypal might try to retrieve it, but if the recipient has already withdrawn it, then they can't.
More info needed about the nature of the error.

It seems to me that the poster is saying that Nationwide are at fault for putting the cash in the wrong account. Can you confirm that tge correct bank details were entered by your husband onto Paypal? That would at least narrow down who might be to blame.

Will Nationwide give you an overdraft to tide you over till this is sorted?
