in Credit cards
My partner & I hired a car in France a year ago and have just had a letter from the hire company to say they forgot to take payment & will debit our credit card now. In truth, we genuinely hadn't realised we hadn't paid for this but wondered if there are any time limits regarding when they are allowed to claim money from us?

It's 6 years, ie until it's statute barred, for chasing the debt by other means.
In effect, they have 6 months to take the payment without informing you. So long as they show the correct auth date. Can be abused by retailer not showing correct auth date....
If it debited after 6 months. Then there is a chargeback option. But you have to remember, you do owe the money and they could use other means to get it.
As they have informed you, then they can take it in the timescales they have now quoted.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
As you have had over 12 months interest-free credit from the car rental company, this sounds like a good deal."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
