Relay wiring. Any ideas?

Options
Bought this 12v 40A relay to wire in my heated grips on my Honda CBR600.
I want to wire a feed from battery to relay to grips to earth. On the other side from ignition switch to relay to earth.
Have we any electricians on here who can cast a light on the relay connections?
Wire colours are Red, Green, Grey and Black.
Cheers!

what's the code on the relay can can't quite make it all out?

I can tell you how to wire up a standard automotive relay.

    pin30 to bat,

    pin 85 to earth

pin86 to your switch connected to bat

    pin87 to your grips.

Grips are DR BIKE DR 695. They only draw 4 amps.
I know the pin numbers for standard relay but there are no pin Nos on this one.
The stamping on the relay is no help. It says:
    LGY 2011
    POWER
    RELAY
    12V 40A

Got a multimeter? set to ohm resistance and measure each wire to each other, when you find 2 wires that have say 100 to 1000 ohms then those are the coil connections to energise it, the other two must be the contacts (should measure no resistance until the relay is activated)

Presume you have a switch to go in the circuit somewhere unless you want heated grips all year round and a lot of battery drain.

Depending on the switch you may not need a relay at all.

    This is the relay:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Auto-Power-Relay-Harness-Socket/dp/B0094GOJXK
The grips have an on/off thermostat controller and fused wire directly to battery. However they can be switched on when the bike is left so can drain battery.
I want to wire the grips controller through the relay to the battery and the relay through the ignition circuit so that relay only closes when ignition is on.
Relay has no pin numbers just wires coloured red, black, green and grey.

As pointed out earlier, this will result in the grips being on, even in summer. Also as pointed out earlier, you need to follow yellowgoose's instructions or, if you have no multimeter, connect different pairs of wires to a 12V battery until you hear a click - those wires are the coil connections and the other two will be the switched contacts.

    Thanks Guys...
As I said the grips have a switch but because they connect directly to battery can be left on. The relay is so that full power is applied through the switch/controller only when the ignition supplies power to the coil side of relay.
I'll go with the multimeter idea thanks. Just thought someone would know the colour code of the wires to save time.

    Cheers everyone :)
