Aviva argh!!!

I have had both home and motor insurance from Aviva for the last year. Am due to renew and have checked my paperwork to begin the trawl of comparison sites and both policies only have5 years no claims bonus listed. I have had no claims on either policy and over15 years when I joined Aviva last year. In order to compare policies I need to know exactly how many years I have and have not received any response to emails I have sent directly to Aviva. Is this a deliberate ploy from Aviva so I can't get a decent comparison for my renewal figure?

Has anyone experienced this before?

  • No, they have 5 years as their maximum but where they can see people have proof for more than 5 years they will prove it. You might want to call in and see how many years exactly they have on record for you.
I work for a leading insurance company as an Insurance Advisor dealing with Commercial Insurance. Feel free to ask me any questions but please do not take what I say as correct advice at all times, as every insurance company works differently to others.

Lots of people and not just with Aviva. Various threads on here about it.

5 years is the usual maximum for some insurers but there are a few will give a bit of extra discount beyond 5.

For home insurance it doesn't really matter - more important is the number of years you haven't had a claim.

    Thanks for oyur advice

I have just called them. They don't keep any record as to how many years NCD I joined them with. They can vouch for the two years I have had with them and proof that I came to them with 5 or more years, but not the 18 years I have had without accident or incident.

And it cost me 18 mins hanging on the telephone on a chargeable number.

Just another obstacle to moving to a different insurer.....

Rather than call, contact them via the website and have an online chat.

Some insurers go up to 10 years NCD, but the extra 5 years aren't worth much extra discount and if you do have a claim they treat it as 5 years.

Contact the insurer you were with before moving to Aviva and ask for a letter confirming the NCD you had when you left them.

If you contact Aviva's Social Media team, they will sort it out for you

I'm in the same situation as geordiescose; if my renewal letter has NCD of 5 years, is that what I have to put down when applying for new insurance? It makes a difference to the 20+ years of not having claimed

If you cannot get them to send you the correct ncd (which they will if you originally gave them your 20+ proof of ncd) then unless you have a paper trail to prove your ncd you now have 5.

I'm currently with Aviva, and at renewal will clock up to ten years NCB. Aviva haven't actually ever asked me for proof of my NCB, so only have me listed as five years. Shortly after setting up the policy they called me to check all was well - I asked about the NCB, and they told me that they would be able to provide the increased NCB, as long as I later provided proof to them. So I guess I'll just have some messing around, if I want to move away from them at renewal.
