best way to advertise a cycling initiative

i have somehow volunteered myself at work to initiate a group which is to encourage cycling and walking locally. There are a few of us who have met and we have some ideas and i said i would do the initial setting up of some kind of info page.

My idea was to create a facebook account in the as yet un named group and start from there but then i thought that many people may not have or want to have a facebook account so have thought about a web page or a blog type thing but whatever i do would have to be at no cost except my time and i really dont want to spend hours so was just after some pointers from folks here on what may work

if its a web site it would have to be free and easy to do without a load of time spent on it every month.

sorry its all abit vague at the moment but i just need a method of getting my ideas down firstly

What is your project all about? Who is your target audience? What tools do you require, offline and online? Are you trying to become noticed on the internet or just need a blog as a place offline people can go to for information? Assuming you just need a - Visit Us Online at https://www.whatever.com - website/blog whereby you are then going to advertise offline in sports centres, newsagent etc. I would just go for a Wordpress Blog.

Facebook by far the easy and cheapest way. But as it has downsides as you said.

How about trying a company that does this sort of thing.
