Chain hotels in the USA tend to have larger rooms than the equivalent here. We usually use HI Express, Best Western or Comfort Inns(part of https://www.choicehotels.com) . Most have reasonable cancellation terms but these can vary with the rate that you book. Days Inns have a blanket free night policy if you can find the same room for less online but you have to book the room on their site first. Sign up for each chains clubcard and you will get fringe benefits. Holiday Inn have a priority points scheme were you collect points for each $ spent to get free nights. You can also get a credit card that adds priority points on all your spend. Plus look on the chains websites and sign up for any promotions. If you want to check out a specific hotel, https://www.tripadvisor.com will usually give you some info and reviews plus links to discount rates. https://www.octopustravel.co.uk is pretty good to get a guide price.0
