Dazed_and_confused wrote: »It looks like tax office think you are still employed at both the other jobs you refer to but your last post suggests you no longer have these jobs although you also refer to your "full time" job as though you have a "part time" job as well.
If you stopped working for the other companies did you make sure you got p45s from each employer? These could be helpful in sorting things out.
Do your coding notices for your full time job simply show your allowance less allowances to another job/pension or are there other entries?
Thanks for your message.
No - I have only one job (listed as my full time one)
Neither company of the two part time/temp jobs I work with anymore - One from 18 months ago and the other from last July.
I earned about £500 with them in July.
And no the 810L to 500L one doesn't make any mention of above Jem16
I'm not sure I do have P45's from them actually - but I thought I was getting taxed normally until now0 -
Out of interest - is there anything on the notes on the back of the letter that states "we have asked your employer to use this code in a special way"?
It says: this is how we worked out your tax code:
Personal Allowance: £8105 (note 1)
other earnings (or pension): £-3105 (note 2)
a tax-free amount: £5000
1. Everyone who lives in the uk receives a personal allowance. This is income you can earn or receive each year tax free... blah blah blah
2. We will check if there is anythin that would reduce your tax-free amount, we have transferred £3105 of your tax-free amount to use against your other income or pensions blah blah blah
3.If your total employment income and taxable state benefit for the year is more than £5000 you will pay tax as follows:
20% xxx
40% etc etc.
This means you can get about £416 a month, or £96 a week before ACME Corporation takes tax off you0 -
As already said, best thing you can do is phone HMRC and get your tax code straight for 2013/14.
You will then need to gather your P60 for 2012/13 but you will also need the P45 from the job you had last July.0 -

Thanks, will do.
Do i have to contact the companies to reissue them if I can't find them? I moved house in September so these things seem to not be to hand0 -

As far as I'm aware, P45s cannot be reissued. You would have to ask them for a statement of earnings.
However it's worth asking HMRC to check first.0 -
Employers will not give duplicate P45, ask them for a letter confirming pay and tax and dates when you were employed and send it with your P60 remember to take copies of everything you send in though,0

As OP has said his 2013:14 code included allowances given to the "part time" jobs so this would suggest that HMRC are unaware these jobs have ended, OP may not have P45's to hand because they've never been issued rather than because of a house move.
Sorting out next years code should be straightforward - as a short term measure he can simply ask for all allowances to be set against the "full time" job but it would then be a good idea for him to contact the "part time" employers and let them know he has no intention of doing any further work for them so they can issue P45's - these may help in getting a quick refund after the "full time" employer provides the P60 for 2012:13.
Without P45's I guess HMRC would not make any repayment until OP could provide P60's from the "part time" employments.0 -
Thanks for your help - called HMRC today and spoke to a helpful guy who said that he'd mark both part time jobs finished so that my tax code could be recalculated. I was never issued P45's with either it turns out - so they were on the assumption I still worked there.
They have worked out my new tax code to be 810L until 6th April and 944L going forwards.
I am due a tax rebate of over £600 but unfortunately because my next payroll run is after end of financial year (6th April) then I can't get rebate into my next pay packet and it'll have to come via cheque when my P60 comes in which could take quite some time.
Not sure what I'm supposed to to RE: bills etc this month, but at least now I know where I stand.0 -

I agree with you there. I just suggested asking HMRC in case. Thanks for your help - called HMRC today and spoke to a helpful guy who said that he'd mark both part time jobs finished so that my tax code could be recalculated. That's correct. Not much use changing 2012/13 code now though if you are paid monthly.I am due a tax rebate of over £600 but unfortunately because my next payroll run is after end of financial year (6th April) then I can't get rebate into my next pay packet and it'll have to come via cheque when my P60 comes in which could take quite some time.
You may also need the P45 from the old job last July so I suggest you contact them and get it. P60 has to be issued by end of May.0
