Hi teecee, carrying such a burden can be so soul destroying, i'm glad you shared this with your brother and hope things go okay for you. Like you i'm a single mother with 4 dependants i'm in £80k of debt after spliting up with my partner, i'm totally alone and have no family support, finding a corner to turn is extremely hard.

Well I managed to get some sleep and feel a little better this morning.
My brother has just rung to see if I'm ok. He didn't mention anything about the debts just asked if I slept ok.

I have two brothers both of whom I am very close to, and last night has just made me so proud of my little brother, both of my brothers are younger than me, with great jobs and successful careers, I guess I thought that they would be disappointed in me that is so hard for me to face.

But he wasn't! He reminded me of all the times I've helped him out in the past. You know the sort of thing, wanting designer trainers when you're 12 and mum and dad would give him the money for normal trainers, I made up the difference.

My little brother has such a good heart I know that he won't judge.
He also said to me, not to be too ashamed to ask for help, he can't pay off my debts for me but if I am finding it hard to manage for any reason he said he wants to help.

Thank you all sooo much for your support, it has helped me see things more clearly and made me feel so much better.

    xx

Hi Teecee what a wonderful brother you have. At least you have a physical being who can comfort you now. Everyone on this site is wonderful and are here for you but I know that sometimes you do just need a hug!

Sending you lots of big cyber-hugs.

    Take care

    Hi Teecee

Just wanted to say that I think you're very brave "coming out" to your brother. I recently did the same with my little brother. I was terrified that he'd judge me, but he didn't - he's fabulously supportive :A

Aswell as our regular Friday night phonecalls, I go to see him and his family every month (I'm just outside London, he's in Manchester) and they're my sanity visits. He asks for updates on my debt repayment and gets really excited with me when I tell him how well I'm doing. At Dec 06 I owed around £26,000 and I've cleared around £5,000 already and plan to be debt free in under two years.

I'm single, so don't have another half to share this with, so having someone close to me to talk to and to support me helps me tremendously.

You and I are very lucky gals indeed! With fabulous and people on this site offering support and advice we'll get through it.

Keep up the good work and give your brother a big hug - they're free!
£27k (excluding interest) paid off in 29 months
    Finally debt free!

My sister and OH were in a right pickle with their finances and didn't tell anyone until they had lost their business and house...If only she had we could 've helped out. She was my older sister so wouldn't come to me but she could have told our elder brother who has since been brilliant paying off credit cards, utility bills etc. I don't have much to spare but I give her all my tesco vouchers and help out where I can.
Family is family as the Mitchells of Walford would say. You have also released an awful lot of tension now he knows...support and love are the tools of life and you have both and are not alone.

What a brother you have!!!! I live alone and are in deep about 20k and wanted to move back in with my dad and her in his big house, Which she lives in and pays no rent to live there and goes on expensive holidays and drives a flashy new car. And i can't even afford to eat some weeks.
When i said this she kick up such a fuss my dad said no. He does not know about the debt as i don't have the bottle to tell him or anyone for that matter else since my split.
And i can't rent a room as the house is not ready and i can't afford to finish it as i have no money.
But hey on the plus side man u won the premership.
