Over the last few years, it’s become quite the vogue for doctors to launch their own skincare lines. And there are some fab ones, like Dr Andrew Weil’s Mega-Mushroom range for Origins – which we both use on our sensitive skins. Now, another high-powered medical researcher has joined the ranks – and we’re very impressed.
Dr Jon Bragi Bjarnason is professor of biochemistry at the University of Iceland so it’s perhaps not surprising that the basis of his Dr Bragi Age Management Marine Enzyme product comes from the coastal shores of Iceland.
Dr Bragi first investigated Penzyme (the active ingredient or ‘penetrating enzyme’) as a treatment to help wound healing and arthritis. It was so effective that he started to look at the cosmetic potential. Presented as a light gel, the formulation works for anti-ageing - it really does seem to make skin amazingly smoother, tauter and brighter, in Sarah’s experience (she’s been the assiduous tester). And stacks of testimonials say it is also effective for problem skin conditions including acne, rosacea and eczema. Dr Bragi also says it will help scarring and dark circles.
Dr Bragi Age Management Marine Enzyme is undoubtedly expensive at £120 for a 50ml dispenser but he advises only using a ‘small, pea-sized’ amount, morning and night – and it does last literally for months. Once you see the results, it almost seems like a bargain – certainly value for money (if your budget permits).
