Personally, I give for the cause rather than taking a judgmental view on how a charity collects money.
I don't give for a cause. I give because I want the charity to do something useful with my money.
That's why, when given the option on a donation form, I always ask the charity not to send an acknowledgement of my donation. I don't want them to waste my money thanking me for sending them the money.
And it's why I'd rather the Red Cross didn't keep filling their envelopes with more stuff than I could ever possibly use.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

I think I got a bit disillusioned with some major charities when I heard that the government gives big one-off "donations" or grants and they suddenly seem to support a new, relevant government policy...
I'm for giving to local charities all the wayi before e, except when you run a feisty heist on a weird beige foreign neighbour0 -
I did wonder myself about the awful amount of cr*p that British Red Cross send out so I asked them about it. They don't pay for it, it is donated through the manufacturers (of cheap pens etc) and their donation collectors are volunteers. I still object to the rubbish they send out though as it is wasteful of dwindling resources used in its manufacture.0

I have to admit that i thought the BRC was one of the better uk charities until i saw they supported failed asylum seekers in the UK.0

We had our first ever charity collector knock on our door, on Saturday, for the Red Cross. Nice lad and undoubtedly a good cause, but he wanted us to provide our details and a dd for regular contributions. I already contribute through work to cancer charities, but nevertheless I felt quite guilty for not contributing to the Red Cross.0
