But if it annoys you that much, my advice to you is to move away - seriously, it's not worth getting het up about.

Good advice for yourself if you cannot live with people being referred to T&Cs, particularly when they are posting incorrect statements, and when the T&Cs are crystal clear.

.......... and I honestly believe there is no such thing as a stupid question

I agree with you there. But nobody has ever suggested that there was any stupid question on this thread.

The original question was whether DDs are only required to be eligible for cashback. The answer to that Q is a clear 'no', and the full explanation is in the T&Cs, in plain english. For everyone's convenience, I provided a link to the T&Cs, and subsequently also an extract of the relevant clauses.

Not sure what you are taking issue with.
Am I right in saying that a Santander 123 account can be operated as a fee-paying account WITHOUT the two DD's on it - the DD's only being required to be eligible for cashback?

Lots of clever clogs in here.

No interest or cashback if there are not 2 active direct debit mandates set up on the account.

Nothing about "active" DDs in the T&Cs, regardless of how an "active" DD might be defined

regardless of the t&c, the practical reality is it must be active i.e. it could be collected if requested. not cancelled or finished.

lol, I think I am beginning to understand why there is nothing in any T&Cs about the 'state' of a DD, if the bankers distinguish between 'active', 'cancelled', 'finished' - - - none of which mean anything to any consumer, and certainly are not defined by any bank in any T&Cs that I have ever seen (and I have seen a fair few).

If "practical reality", "active", "cancelled", "finished" etc aren't defined clearly in the T&Cs, they don't mean anything. End of.
