    Annoyed.

My +4% nominal HPI in Hamish's 2013 prediction thread looks ridiculously low now. :(

    i predicted 1-2 % :rotfl:

I said the other day that the budget has potentially to return double digit growth sooner than expected. The scene is almost set...

The crashers have been well and truly trashed now. Game over.

well and truly over. wonder how they are coping on HPC badly i suspect :rotfl:

Capital gains, rent rises and filthy cheap Funding for Lending mortgages. I thought investors were supposed to be screwed? The outlook is actually rather good.

Couple of quick thoughts - public sector pay limit held at 1% and something about action on public sector incremental salary scales (I think?). I believe that there are 5-6million public sector employees. With inflation in Feb at 2.8%, the comments I made on other threads about a lack of confidence leading to lower spending leading to lower economic activity hold true. The point that I made about increments also may give councils and others a problem in increasing efficiency. Many employers have tied incremental progression to improvements in performance. If the carrot of incremental progression is to be removed, I can see problems. In my former employer, performance related pay had only just been introduced.

I work for DWP, we have not had progression payments for a good 5 or 6 years if my memory serves me correctly. Thus has resulted in pay disparity between departments of about 20% so I think its only fair that the situation is equalisied I wonder if it includes teachers?). We have already had 2 years of pay freeze and a 1% rise last year. This will now be followed a further 2 years of 1% rise. The trouble is due to the pension changes we are having pension contribution rises of at least 1% upwards.

By the end of the 6 years, if it ends there, I don't think anyone could ever accuse public sector employees being paid more than the equivalent job in the private sector.

Why should anything be equalised. Just go and work for the higher paying department or leave.

    Anything on fags?

    Cigarettes rise by inflation +5%

Wine will rise by 10p a bottle, spirits by 38p a bottle and cider by 2p a pint.

The usual rubbish journalism by many media outlets.

Gideon announced these all last year. If the rise remained the same, he didn't mention it, he only mentioned the ones he changed. But these journos had weeks to get their act, have all the facts and spotted what he failed to mention

    Off-topic I know, but I thought I'd share...

HPC filters now ban the word gideon from posts.

Apparaently something to do with SEO.

So posters there have started using gidiot instead.

No, it's even better than that. It would be 500,000 at 20%.

If you have a 10% deposit, then the government adds a guarantee for 10%, it's a million higher LTV mortgages.

Or at 15% guarantee (plus 5% deposit) it's 750,000 mortgages at higher LTV.

By comparison, there were just a few tens of thousands last year.

This is fantastic news. Does this apply to new properties only, or does it include old too? I'm about 2% off having a 10% deposit, though want to buy an older property due to room sizes etc.
