Hi,

Thinking of getting an A3 sportsback. Just trying to work out if it is worth getting the 1.8 automatic over the 1.4

I don't do that many miles but have always had borning cars and fancy something a bit more exciting!

Anyone that has an A3 have any comments?

This is the new model A3 you are referring to?

Yeah the 2013. But I am guessing any feedback will be from owners of the last model.

There are two 1.4 engines available for the new A3 - a 122PS and 140PS engine - the latter also has 25% more torque than the former, and includes 'Cylinder on Demand' technology where the engine switches to two cylinder operation at lower loads (motor way cruising, etc). The 1.8 DSG costs over £3,000 more than the 140 PS 1.4, for the Sport model.

I cant comment on what the new A3 is like but I am a big fan of the DSG (or S tronic as Audi brands it) and would go for that option over a manual if buying new.

Why are you not considering the 1.4 with the DSG box?

I would also go for SE over Sport trim (or at least test drive both) as in my experience 'Sport' models tend to have firmer suspension which isnt best suited to UK roads.

I love the look of the sline model and Audi now do an option to take the sline model but with regular suspension. I will check them both out.

Its through work and there isn't a 1.4 stronic

The Audi site says the s tronic is available on all trim lines:

    http://www.audi.co.uk/new-cars/a3/a3-sportback/specifications.html

    1.4 TFSI 122 S tronic 116 56.5 C 14% £24,680
Is it just not available on the list that you can choose from?

I had two a 140 and a 170 diesel, both DSG. One was fine, the other was a disaster spending weeks at the dealer having warranty work done.

If you need the back seats, check the legroom. It wasn't great.

    Interior fittings are top notch.
