House insurance query on no claims
Ms-Money-Penny

I've held house insurance for the past 30 years and have had no claims or losses in the last five years. My question is that i sold my property last December and cancelled the insurance with 5+ years no claims. I will be completing on my next property next week, am i still entitled to say that i have 5+ years no claims or do i have to start again?
Thanks

There is no transferable no claims discount on home insurance, so all you need to do is honestly answer the question to confirm you have had no claims/incidents in the last five years, if that is in fact, the case.
You won't be asked to evidence this, but the insurer can check the claims database to make sure you are telling the truth.I am a mortgage broker. In the majority of cases the above is true, one or two insurers do have a "no claims discount" but it is a simple equiv of years of claim free insurance with no complex losing X years per claim or having the ability to protect the NCD etc
The rest of the advice is good, just answer the questions as they're asked. The challenge for you will be if they ask about the number of years that you've continuously held home insurance (but again not all do)0 -
There should be no issues with your NCD.
If the insurer asks or you mention that there has been a lapse / gap in cover it is usually the case that you keep your no claims as long as the gap has not been longer than 12 months - which in your case is fine. Some insurers allow a longer period providing you have held previous insurance. You would need to confirm that there have not been any incidents that could have given rise to a claim during this time.0
