npower Tariff Change

Options
I'm having an ASHP installed so my gas consumption will drop dramatically to provide cooking only. Using the Energy Club, I switched to npower's Go Save tariff. I went on stream less than a week ago on the 14th.

Now they have changed the tariff structure and my potential bill will TRIPLE. I rang them and complained that they knew about the change but the staff have only just been told.

The Energy Club has now directed me to my local firm, Ebico, and I will save £99 per year.

But Ebico are still typically fifty percent more expensive than NPower would have been if they had kept their two tier structure.

19p per kWh for gas. 19p! When are Ofgem and the consumer groups who apparently want this alteration going to speak up and defend this intended consequence? Have not heard a single peep from them.
  • Ebico are charging 5.06 pence per unit, inclusive of VAT with no standing charge. That's not a bad deal.
npower are now charging 3.96 pence per unit but with a daily standing charge of 46 pence.
With cooking only, npower goes off the Richter scale.

What do you mean by your 'local firm'?

Whilst Ebico are based in Witney near Oxford, they supply all of Great Britain. Most contact will be via their supply partner and billing agents, Scottish & Southern Energy.

Ebico can change thir pricves at any time as they only offer variable tariffs (like nPower's goSave). You need a fixed rtae tariff if you don't want the uncertainty of changeing prices.

Do you really think you will now consume less than £1 per month of gas?
(i.e. less than 0.7kWh per day cooking?)

You're right. They are national but based locally. Their last price rise was in Dec and they say it should remain stable until next Dec.
I'm working on 1000 units of gas for cooking. The npower deal offered a £57.50 rebate for a monthly direct debit and dealing online.

    Where do they say this?

Their prices are benchmarked against the SSE (since SSE are their supply partner)
So are you saying SSE prices are frozen until December? If so, please provide your source.

Once the discounts you now mention nPower pay are taken into consideration, your savings with ebico will more than halve to less than £50 a year.

But what units? Meter units( Cubic m, 100's cu ft), or kWh's?

Technically it isn't a price rise. It's an adjustment to the charging method removing seasonal charging and applying a standing charge instead.

However, if you have a fixed deal then you won't get standing charges until your contract has expired....so check the dates on the contract.

I didn't say the prices were frozen. I said that Ebico had advised me that the prices SHOULD remain unchanged until Dec.

Where/how were you advised that? Please link to the source if available.

Or did you simply take the word of some salesperson giving you a sales spiel over the phone?
