Praise: At last some real action on cold calling

BBC news item Here.

No help with overseas cold callers but at least it's something.

I'd be happier if that article gave some context of the size of the fine in comparison to the offender's profits/turnover. £90k is peanuts to some companies.

Perhaps they should be barred from making any outbound sales calls?

Although you are an established poster so obviously its a "safe" link. I am always uncomfortable about links that are done as hyperlinks as that link above could theoretically take you anywhere....

Move your mouse over the link, and the address appears in the bottom LH corner of the browser window, assuming your browser is IE.

    And Firefox.

If you hold your mouse over a link in IE, Chrome or Firefox you should see the URL appear which will tell you where the hyperlink links to. As far as I can tell this feature is not present on Safari.

...and regarding the OP, this is great news. Hopefully the authorities will really start to crack down on cold calls and unsolicited text messages. But yeah, 90k may be peanuts to some companies.

But links are easily changed. For instance this one, that looks like it should take you to the MSE fuel duty news report
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/travel/2013/03/budget-2013-petrol-fuel-duty

But takes you to the MSE pensions news report

Back on track, lets hope it's the first of a long series of penalties. Perhaps a "name and shame" section of MSE could be started.
