Leaving a deposit

I'm looking into buying a parrot. To secure the parrot i would like to leave the owner a deposit. As the parrot is some miles away i cannot pick it up until later on in April. How can i leave a deposit safely. I was thinking about sending it via paypal? I worried that there is no guarentee that my money is safe.

Ultimately there is always a matter of trust in any transaction.
Using PayPal or a credit card (if total cost is over £100) is the safest methods (assuming the seller themselves accepts CCs)0 -

Your money will definitely not be safe if you fail to complete the transaction/contract.0
