Advice please, on now defunct Intosofa.

Options
Hi there, I'm desperately after some advice please.

I purchased a large corner sofa from Intosofa online in January last year, which cost almost £1000. Over the last couple of months the springs in it have been popping off, rendering one seat completely unusable and 2 others sagging and uncomfortable.
I have tried contacting Intosofa both via their website and the telephone number listed on the email receipt to no avail. After doing a Goggle search, it seems that they have disappeared off the face of the earth!
How do I go about either getting a refund or repair, if I am unable to locate the company I purchased from? I paid for the sofa with my Visa debit card, so I'm sure it's far too late to claim with my bank.

Any advice much appreciated.

I suspect you're stuck. Had you paid by a form of credit you'd have some comeback. Sadly, I've nothing to suggest. Hopefully somebody else can suggest something

Looks like the website (I assume it was intosofa.com) is now just a parking page and the domain has been registered using privacy protection , so there is no detail of who the site was registered to.

Thanks for the replies; I feared that there wouldn't be anything I could do about it!
I've found out who the company directors of Intosofa are/were, but can only find the actual business contact details, which as I said earlier are a complete dead end. I am fuming at the moment!

You mention directors, so I assume the site was run by a Ltd company. Looking on the Companies House website there appear to be two similarly named companies ("INTO SOFA LTD" and "IN TO SOFAS LIMITED") recorded and both appear to be still trading.

The directors will be a dead end, as they will not have personal liability, it is the Ltd company that any liability will be with.

    Hi,
It is the Into Sofa Ltd one I believe, as the address and telephone number match those on my receipt. Would it be worth writing to them at the registered address?
    Many thanks :)

You may well be able to get a repair done by a local upholsterer.

It won't be free of course.

Ring a few to get an idea of cost.

    Thank you. That's Plan B.

I'm just so angry and upset over it, as this was our first sofa from new. We'd always had family hand-me-downs, but after a successful PPI claim, finally had the funds to purchase a much lusted after corner group. I cannot believe it's only lasted just over a year :(

It might be worth a recorded delivery letter to them, to ask them what they intend to do about the sofa. A good quality sofa should last longer than a year.
  • intosofa are now trading as selectasofa, you can get hold of them at selectasofa.com
    Good luck.
  • Hi

I too bought a intosofa sofa which I had problems with. I found that intosofa went out of business last year and are not trading as selectasofa.com.

I did however contact selectasofa, they are selling a very similar system but have no link to intosofa. They were very helpful and are trying to match my sofas fabric to see if they can make me the part I need. I'm not sure how much it is going to cost yet but I will let you know how I get on :)
