any advice???

Options
My ex has refused to have any contact with his son and he is refusing to pay any maintenance. I contacted the CSA and gave them all the details that i knew about him (his name, contact number place of work etc) I was unable to provide an address as he had recently moved and refused to let me know where he was living.

The CSA contacted his place of work and confirmed that he was working there, but stated that unless i could provide his current address there was nothing that they could do. As i was unable to provide this information, they closed the case 2 weeks later.

Is there anything i can do to get the maintenance money that my son deserves???

This doesn't sound right, are you sure that they have closed the case? If they know his employer they can obtain his address from the employer or from HMRC and even if they can't get a current address they can have the forms sent to him via the employer. They can't just give up. Phone you MP's constituency office and ask them for help with this. We had to get help from our MP on a CSA matter last year and they were very helpful (most of the work was done by a member of the MP's staff)

    Contact your MP.
  • Give them the last address you did have for him too. They can use that in their trace tools with his name and dob to find his current address. I agree this doesn't sound right and I would be challenging the closure decision.
I often use a tablet to post, so sometimes my posts will have random letters inserted, or entirely the wrong word if autocorrect is trying to wind me up. Hopefully you'll still know what I mean.
  • They have definitely closed the case as i received a letter stating that this had happened due to me failing to provide them with the relevant information. When i phoned them to find out what was going on i asked why they couldn't contact him through his place of work? Their response was that his employer wouldn't allow them to so there was no more that they could do.

When did you get the letter? Assuming it was recent you need to appeal the decision to close the case without delay. Contact your MP's constituency office by phone today and ask for their help to challenge this. I can't help thinking that we are missing some vital information about what is going on here because there is no way that an employer can just refuse to cooperate.
  • I received this letter a couple of months ago now. The only explanation of closing the case that i ever received was that his employer would not allow any correspondents to be sent to his work and that was the end of it. I gave the CSA his previous address where he lived with his sister, but as he no longer lived there they couldn't send any forms there either, even though he used and i assume still uses this address for all of his mail

Definitely contact your MP for help on this without delay. Do you have any address where he could be reached, his parents or siblings perhaps? They can act on any leads of that type, but you need help to get this sorted because the employer can't just say that they will not cooperate with csa.
  • I have just e mailed my MP. I gave the CSA his sisters address as he used to live with her but they were unwilling to contact her. Hopefully the MP will be able to help.

Thanks for all of your advice

Did you put a contact phone number in your email to the MP? They will need to call you to talk this through so if not follow up or resend your original email and add you contact phone number. Make sure you have all the correspondence from CSA to hand as they will need to see this and will certainly want reference numbers etc. Good luck, I hope you get this sorted out.
  • Yes i put a contact number on the e mail and my address. Hopefully my PM will be able to help/advise as what to do next
