    Two things
Or if you want to be snotty and make sure you get your compensation say: I shall expect my compensation/voucher/something in the next 2 weeks.
1/. Please don't be snotty - there is no need for it really, is there? And just remember that a real human being that is probably in no way at all to blame for the problem (and might only be if it is a tiny tiny company) is reading the letter, so no need to upset them.
    Second:

This is an actual letter I sent to a glow stick company.

    Dear Sir or Madam:

I am a huge fan of all things that glow. Recently I bought 200 glow sticks, and upon coming to this site found cheaper ones! The prices here are very good and the range is fantastic.*

    *Not true

sorry to pick threads - but they do have a really good range and prices compared to a lot of companies that do similar things - they do professional quality glowy items (we use them a lot in our costumes) and are the best quality and cheapest we can find for exactly what they are, and that's within the industry. Edit: Just realised you don't put the name in this thread when I re-read the post(it's in your other one) so removed this bit. Sorry.

But great tips for writing letters - just remember the human element in the getting caught up in getting freebies people.....
Do not feed the trolls please.

Great. So when REAL complaints (or even genuine, above-and-beyond praise) gets sent in, it gets lost in a sea of begging letters.

Just as 'freebies' is 'no spend required' it should also be 'honest'. I don't think half-truths and even outright lies are anything to be commended. I bet there are people out there who write numerous letters like this to companies regarding products they've never purchased.

If companies have to pay out more compensation for petty or hoax reasons, then it's likely genuine letters will get less as a result, the product price will rise, or worse, the employees will suffer through being reprimanded or even their bonuses cut (if there is a hike in complaints where I work, our bonuses are reviewed.)

Sending off for an offered freebie is one thing. Begging for compensation is against the way of MSE and this board. Sorry for the rant, but I'll continue to complain (about three times a year at most!) about services and products when I feel there is a need only.

Well said KittyKate!! I'm not impressed with the slant this thread might suggest. I see too much opportunity for begging and lying! In fact, it would be a perfect parallel to benefits fraud, where people lie to get things they do not deserve! And none of us agree with that, now do we?

When you complain falsely, you are targeting the poor guy in the factory who is earning an honest wage by trying to ensure that his product is good for the customer. This country needs to support business and employment instead of putting pressure on it to try and scam a few pence worth of goods. Every lying letter is a thorn in the side of the reputation of British industry or trade.

Complain when complaints are necessary by all means, but don't lie. I would be ashamed if anyone in my family wrote a letter that wasn't true for the sake of a few packets of sweets. Shameful!

This thread does not offer an obvious freebie - should it even be open here?

I agree with the last 2 posts! I love getting freebies but I am not so desperate I would write a false letter.

However on the odd occasion when I have had reason to complain, I almost always have been satisfied with the result.:)

Lol sms i am complaining to comet at the moment for there poor service, see what happens.

Good Luck! I took a faulty kettle back there which cost £39.99. They took the kettle but as I paid by cheque said that they would put the money back in my bank, which I argued saying that is not the correct procedure etc, I phone a few other comets and they said (Without giving them details) if you pay by cheque you get cashback, anyway OH said give me the kettle back then, the 'manager' said no can't do that now, So they had my kettle and my money! Phoned Customer service who were just rude and after 2 months of not having money back I wrote a letter, they didn't even give me an apology - just sent me a cheque for £39.99 They are appauling!!

My sister works for them and she says how rubbish their customer care is! Apparently they just buy cheap rubbish to sale so don't really care about the customers!

    Oh and to this thread!

I think its wrong, Just to get freebies.... what about the genuine people who have had a problem but get nothing because of the amount of claims they have had recently! Its unfair and immoral... think of people losing their jobs or getting warnings over this!!!!

Should this thread not be closed, regardless of the fact it promotes dishonesty, it's not actually a freebie. Genuine issues should go to vent, bent & heaven sent.
