Unpaid Parking 'Fine' PCN NW and Roxburghe debt collection

Im new to this so bare with me, I have a couple of questions for people more knowing then me
I was at a college in october, got a parking ticket from PCN (NW) as the pay and display ticket had blown over face down when shutting my door, appealed as soon as possible, needless to say it was rejected, I believe a £50 'fine' for a ticket blowing over even after i'd proved i had one was robbery so I took no further action even when I received my final reminder for £100.
But today out of the blue (19th march) I got a call from an unknown number, they asked if I was mr .... and I said yeah speaking, they then asked for my address and postcode, when I asked them who they were they said they couldnt disclose that until I gave them my address to which I informed them I wasnt going to be giving my address out to unknowns. I eventually managed to find out this guy was working for 'Roxburghe' although he couldnt tell me what they were or what they wanted, just that a letter was on its way and they'd be in contact again.
They are a debt collection agency and I'm wondering what my next step would be?
I am also annoyed that the college has passed my phone number onto debt collection companies so now I will be receiving calls at random asking for money, surely this cant be legal? what with data protection and such?

The college haven't passed on your phone details. Roxburghe find numbers in the public domain, either by a simple search if you have an unusual surname (your number could even be on a friend's facebook page somewhere) or by a basic financial search where your Bank or other lender may have placed a phone number listed against your name/address summary on your credit file.
You could check your credit file and I expect your phone number is on there. I think you can check it for free with Experian (search MSE and ye shall find).
Anyway, lots of people get their time wasted by Roxburghe calls. Stopping them is easy! Just Google these keywords and read the results:
'Roxburghe phone calls fake PCN debt is denied'.
HTHPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

thanks for the reply coupon,
all I would add is that my phone number is never given out to organisations, my bank Doesn't have it, my employer Doesn't etc. the organisations that have my phone number that im aware of are the college and my dentist, and i'd be very surprised if it were my dentist.
anyways, I'll await this letter and see read it out of curiosity, I'll wait for contact from Roxburghe and I'll let them know that I wont be disclosing any infomation, then I'll find a standard cease and desist letter.
thanks for the advice0 -
What I do is if an phone number is needed for any institutions is to give them a mobile number, that number is just a sim card not in a phone. I put it in one about once a month for a few hours so its not switched off, but don't answer any calls on it.
I never give my real home number to anyone apart from family and the kids schools, or my real mobile phone number apart from friends and family. It works for meWhen posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

Just ignore them- there is nothing they can do, its all empty threats not worth worrying about.0

We had one from the same company, followed by two or three threatening debt collection letters all increasing the amount due. Ignored the lot and not heard for 6 months now.
Scary to do when you see the prices going up with each letter but hold your ground and you'll be fine0 -
thanks for the replies this is reassuring stuff, I have received my first debt collection letter today it all seems pretty similar to stuff I've seen on here. freeimagehosting .net/q4ge5
I'll just continue doing nothing for now. power to the people!:T0 -
Received a letter today threatening that if I do not pay £165 within the next few working days, I will incurr further costs and owe £208.
I have already re-sealed the envelope with a return to sender instruction, I'm sick of their junk mail cluttering up my room, just wondering if this is standard procedure for graham white solicitors?0 -

Fantastic, in November last year I got a ticket from these guys for parking in a disabled bay but forgetting to display blue badge, I ignored as per all these forums advised. Just received a claim form from Northampton Connty Court saying I now owe £237.57 rather than the £50 I could have paid....
Not sure the ignore them Advise is good advise for all!0 -
I thought things had changed and you can no longer ignore? Don't you need to appeal through POPLA or some such thing?0
