Where best to advertise wholesale?

Hi
I'm trying to start a small business selling clear perspex cases for the Raspberry Pi (RPi). The RPi is a relatively new product (but very popular) so I want to start my business fairly soon to be in at the ground level. I'd rather not advertise on ebay as there are already a few sellers. I could undercut them and sell to individual customers, but the margins are tight as it is - so after paying ebay/paypal fees there wouldn't be much left to make the effort worthwhile. So, I was thinking of selling wholesale - but not necessarily in very large volumes (maybe 10 - 20 units at a time). Any ideas as to where I could advertise 'wholesale' for free?
Thanks

I'm not sure who your market would be?

Presumably people who wanted to resell these on ebay, but you're not going to be able to offer a good enough price to make that happen?

It sounds like you're trying to sell a single product that other people have easy access to and is readily available on ebay?
  • If Amazon products u can sell them in Facebook and Twitter. There are so many people there looking for products from Amazon.

How much for 20 units? price per unit without postage?

Usually when people say wholesale its thousands.

How many people want more than 1 ?

Some ultra cheap cases out there. Can you compete?

Dont forget to factor in some may get broken in the post, Some may have small scratches and people will return them. And just general losses.

Have you thought about this business venture properly?

The cases seem to retail for less than £5 each. You could try the resellers to see if they would be interested in buying a few at say 50% discount to retail price. Can you sell them profitably for that price?

But be quick, as I understand the manufacturer plans to include a case as standard with the educational version due out this year ...
  • The amount you have stated is not a wholesale quantity.

If you cannot sell these via eBay due to your margins, I'd be very concerned that you will not be able to sell them at the "right" wholesale price.

As for where to list the item for sale, maybe a good place to reach a higher price would be the same place that the item is sold, I know we got one just last week and just maybe if I'd have seen the case next to it, we may have purchased that without shopping around.

Another worry I would have is that you cannot beat Chinese prices, I buy a lot from China via aliexpress and nobody I have found in the UK can beat the prices for plastic items such as cases, balloons and so on...

    This is Spam.

Salehoo is a work from home scam which will initially cost £56. In addition when I tested out the buying procedure using made up details, the payment page was with Clickbank. Clickbank is an affiliate marketing scheme, popular in America, which involves spamming websites in return for small fees.
  • Not many options left now then. Business really is hard.

Have you really thought about this? I literally get "10" good ideas a week presented to me. I take up the odd 1 or 2 in a year.

Please, before you waste any further time, effort or money on this project. This long and hard. When I buy wholesale, it's in units starting at 0000's. when I manufacture a product it has to be a minimum of 10K produced, call off @ 000's.

If you are talking plastic parts, unless you are moulding/extruding/forming 10K+ , you will find the tooling costs more than the run.

Do you mean you are able to buy in from a wholesaler units at a price point you believe is lower than that of your competitors? What makes you think thy, what hard evidence do you have of that assumption?

There is a great mystique about that Ebay, Amazon are the big bad emailer. I know of around 40 high traffic sites from Auction through to TradeMe that are no better, but re not most buyers first port of call.

At least with the first two, you do your price point, stock your item (thereby tying up your working capital) and sell when your chance comes along.

Just think of what you are buying and selling. I can buy 10.000 iPhone plug in car chargers for 10p each labeled. I can knock them out at £1.00+P&P at a set rate to include postage and sellers fee and site hosting. Will my £2,500 make more or less for me?

In a meeting yesterday I sat down with some guys bringing high grade equipment for the lighting industry. Unfortunately their manufacturer purchased 25/25/50 off the grey/grey/white market. It resulted in 78% failure rate.

You have to be careful and think what you are doing, buy little & often. Build up that way. But from the sound of it, change your product.

So you can't make a profit selling one at a time retail, but you want to wholesale 10-20 units at a time? Why would anyone want to buy wholesale from you when the price you would need to charge can easily be beaten by any Ebay seller.
The product is a no go, any investment will be lost.
