Ikea - What are my rights please?

We bought a full kitchen and appliance from Ikea on the 24 months interest free credit deal via Ikano Financial Services (Ikeas credit provider)
At present, we are 16 months into the 24 month deal and the dishwasher has now gone faulty and is totally unusable.
We have spoken with Ikea who have told us that this matter is "now out of their hands" and that in order to get the dishwasher fixed we must raise a (chargeable) order with Whirlpool, who are the manufacturers of said Dishwasher.
Does this sound right to you guys? I thought that any item bought on credit should be fit for purpose throughout the duration of the credit agreement.
Can anyone quote me my rights in order to enlighten Ikea please?
Many thanks.

Firstly, there's no requirement for an item on credit to be useable throughout. For now I'd ignore the credit aspect.
At this stage I would write to Ikea, stressing that they are the retailer and your statutory rights are against them, not the manufacturer. Point out that 16 months is not an acceptable length of time for a dishwasher to last and they are responsible for supplying a remedy.
They may still argue, and you may end up needing to get an independent report to say the fault was not caused by misuse, but for now I'd go for the gentle reminder and paper trail.0 -

Whether you bought it on credit or not is totally irrelevant. If you think that you have a valid claim you make it against IKEA, just the same as if you had paid cash.
Don't stop making your payments or the lender has a valid case to take action against you.
Strictly speaking IKEA are totally correct in telling you to contact the manufacturer of your appliance - UNLESS you can prove that they sold you a "pup" in the first place, in which case IKEA are responsible.0
