LCD tv picture problem

Hi all,
Today my tv picture started developing lines across the tv....like when something is causing interference to the picture. Originally I thought it was interference but it has been going on all day now and now the picture has just gone to white.....but the sound is good.
I have now put another tv there and the picture is fine so it seems to be something to do with the tv which is a Samsung Series 5.
I was going to try and reset it but when I selected the menu option I couldn't see the menu on the screen.
Does anyone know what the problem is and how to get it fixed ? (If it is worth getting it fixed). I think I have had the tv about 5 years now so it is not covered for repair :0(

Have you tried another input source, e.g. DVD?0

Model number? (Series 5 is not a model number)
So you've tried pressing the 'source' or similar button on the remote repeatedly to cycle through inputs, and the screen is just white all the time? Doesn't sound good. Maybe a board needs replaced (which could be uneconomical) or maybe there's a little component somewhere that is a known weak point and easy-ish to replace, if you can solder!0 -

Yes I went through the sources but the screen stayed the same white cycle moving from top to bottom of screen or maybe vice versa and the thin black line down the middle."The time is always right to do what is right"0 -
Had a quick Google and didn't come up with much. Is the little power light blinking or anything?
Have a look through some of these to see problems that others are having.

No the little power button doesn't blink after the picture(or none picture) comes up after taking it off standby. I looked through the posts but my problem doesn't seem to be they seem to talk about the blinking light and not being able to switch the tv on !"The time is always right to do what is right"0 -
this is usually a sign the LCD PCB board is on its way out, a new pcb for those models are about £40-50. easily changed at home.0

That doesn't sound to bad compared with buying a new tv. Do you know is a good place to buy a PCB board from ?"The time is always right to do what is right"0 -

take your pick either lvds unit or mainboard.
i would suggest LVDS as the that displays the screen.
will have to pay a tv repair shop to diagnose or take a gamble on either one.0 -

Are these just plugin or will they need soldering ?"The time is always right to do what is right"0
