i work, earn a decent salary and i gave up fags because of their insane price (and health problems - but mainly price). if i found it too much to pay £8 or more for 20 cigs, then people on benefit should have NO CHANCE of paying it.
Lets remember, this £70 is pocket money after most of their bills have been paid by other mugs. that is more than most working people have a week after paying for rent/mortgage, insurances, bills, work related expenses (travel, lunch, suits, hair cuts etc etc).
the benefit brigade need just enough to live. no more. shouldn't eve have flats. should just be a room in a hostel.
i would on the other hand increase benefits to properly disabled and sick people who cannot work. However, this would not apply to depressed people. you can work and be depressed. I know this for a fact as I know people with depression. its all very well hiding under the duvet and thinking woe is me, but if the bills need to be paid, you work. or don't - and face the consequences.0 -

I hope you don't ever get made redundant or suffer ill health so that you are unable to continue in your job. Just because you know some people with depression who can work, doesn't mean that everyone with depression can. Were you aware that with very severe depression some people can feel totally disassociated from their body and can develop psychosis etc and have constant suicidal thoughts?
People can be seriously ill with it and its not just woe is me etc. I'm afraid you have made yourself look very ignorant indeed. People can be hospitalized with depression etc and can need a lot of specialist support in order to get better.0 -

If you read the point made in post 23 for very many that £70 is what pays for the items you describe,. rent, bills, looking for work related expenses (travel, lunch, clothes, hair cuts etc, etc.).

If they can afford Sky, fags etc - the level of benefits need reducing.
To what would you suggest?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

or if that is too difficult to administer, stop them altogether.0 -
I reckon the government are worried that without sops there will be almost feral groups going around.
If you don't have Sky / telly to occupy your time , what are you going to do? Go hang out on street corners perhaps?0
