Looking for some good mse advice on above.

We have a second car that does very few miles, it needs a service which at a main dealer will be £190.

The most logical thing to do would be to sell the car but then s*ds law will kick in and I will need a car.

Would I be better to go main dealer service or via a VAT registered garage and save a few quid? No intention of swapping the car if it starts being used as round here a modern car is 5-6 years as a minimum so theres plenty of life in the ibiza yet.

Low mileage cars need servicing as often if not more than high mileage cars.

Oil degrades faster with journey's done with a cold engine. Not enough heat to burn off the contaminates and get rid of the moisture.

I do mostly short journeys and it still gets a full service every year and a 6 month oil change also.
My last oil change was 4000 miles ago.

I never do more than 6000 between changes. And its even been as low as just under 2000 miles.

Yes I intend to get a service / oil change, its probably only done 200 miles at most since last service - couldn't drive for serveral months due to injury and then we don't really need a second car apart from when OH is away from home.

My main query is main dealer service versus independant as we have a local VW/Audi?Seat specialist in the village
  • You get a years free AA with a Seat main dealer service, worth a bit on it's own.

any other thoughts? I can get breakdown cover for less than £50 and the main dealer service is £189. Don't know what the independant would charge but I'm guessing less.

Depends... If anything happens to it a main dealer may still fix it due to the low miles. If its been serviced elsewhere then thats out the window.

How much cheaper is a service at a VAT registered garage with genuine parts?

Thanks, I was just looking to save a few quid, its not being used as I haven't got a job but hoping for some good news shortly so hopefully the car will be used more. I think I'll go and speak to the service manager at the garage I brought the car from and get his advice.
