Using a portable bottled gas heater is crazy-it costs far more to run per kWh than mains gas.
Major confusion with your meter readings. Your gas meter doesn't read in kWh's, it reads in 100's cu ft or cu m, depending on whether it's imperial or metric (marked on thr front). These are then converted at a variable rate to kWh's for billing. If the figures you gave are actual meter readings, and not billed kWh units, then you have used in that period 4,447 gas units, which (assuming a metric meter) would be over 50, 000kWh-that's 3 years typical consumption!. So I hope that your figures are in fact from your bills instead. If so, that usage during the coldest 6 weeks of the year is not at all high.
I would check that you are not being billed for imperial units on a metric meter-that would push your billing up about 280%.
