Hi Kim, I'd recommend looking in the Everything & Anything New York City thread. There's a lot to read but you'll find some good information in there. As far as I know October can be fairly expensive, and accommodation isn't generally "cheap" in NY. How much you looking to spend per night? Last time I went I stayed at Yotel, its a really cool hotel a few blocks from times square (5/10 min walk). What's gone will never come back. But it exists when you think of it ...0 -
im looking at spending around 150-200 per night, i will have a look at that thread thanks0

I stayed in the Hilton garden inn Times Square, was a nice big room & had a microwave.0

I stayed at The Marcel at Gramercy and it was great. Not as close to Times Square but brilliantly placed for going to Chinatown, Little Italy, Battery Park as well as Empire State, Fifth Avenue etc.0

I stay in the pearl hotel and did so last weekend, if that's out you range opposite is the Mayfair hotel ( both on 49th west between 7/8 avenues.)
Great location and safe area and speaking to others Mayfair is a ok place."Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

good luck on finding something cheap in october, my budget was £125-175, but i think we'll put it up to £250 plus tax a night..
it seems even the fleapits want £175 a night.
hotels are ridiculously priced this october..
i've looked at a tonne of sites and to get anything half decent u need a minimum £250 a night plus 14.75% tax and $5 a night..
I'd ignore the recommendations as it'll just depress you.. bang the dates in expedia or such like and read the reviews..
the mayfair for example is £95 over the next few weeks but £176 a night in october0 -
Manhattan hotels are expensive but if you over to Brooklyn or New Jersey they can be considerably cheaper with quick and easy public transport.0

Agreed been looking over the past few weeks and have decided to break up our stay, and bitten the bulletManhattan hotels are expensive but if you over to Brooklyn or New Jersey they can be considerably cheaper with quick and easy public transport.
Staying in long island queens for 3 nights (5-6 mins from the subway then 20 mins to times square the reviews all say)
on a night a taxi should be 20-25 dollars, which saves us at least 2/3rds. paying $150 a night
and then gonna pay the same amount for one nights stay in central manhattan so its easier to get to newark for flight home, that night will be more expensive than the 3 nights combined0 -
I found booking the hotel on a website like Expedia where it takes money off if you book with a flight, the best value. We could not have afforded to have stayed in the hotel we did if we had booked it seperately.0
