Train Season Ticket - Loan / Credit Card???
Options
Hello,
At the minute i pay for a monthly train ticket of around £900 into london. I put this on my credit card and then pay it off at the end of the month which isn't a problem however....
If i buy a yearly ticket i could save about a £150 a month. The only problem is that i don't have the £9000 in hand to pay up front and the company i work for doesn't offer a loan scheme.
I was wondering if there are any credit cards or loans out there that i could take out to pay for the yearly ticket and then pay back monthly with no interest so i could save the £150 each month????
Hopefully this make sense, any advice would be greatly received.
Thanks!

Have you considered moving or renting a room nearer to London on a Mon to Fri basis? Your current monthly payment is 10 X what I pay0 -

ha ha definitely not a troll - should i be offended Victoria797???
While i love working in London, i wouldn't want to be away from my family in the week and while the train seems expensive the benefits of living outside of London even out - i was just wondering if there was a more cost effective way to get what i already pay for.
I'm also definitely not the only person who does this (or pays even more) judging by the amount of regular faces at my station / already on the train each day!
Any ideas on credit cards or loans???0 -
As to what cards/loans will dependant on your salary to debt ration, other commintments, credit history.0

I have reasonably good credit and the usual debt in the form of mortgage but don't foresee any issue in gaining approval for a loan / credit card. I just don't know of any that will give me interest free repayments over the year.
Do you know of any??0 -
Look for cards that give 0% on purchases.0

You obviously live in a bubble and don't understand how expensive train travel into London is...
If you get 0% card now you would need to re-apply for a new 0% card every 12-18 months. I don't know how much that would affect your credit status.
Might be worth looking at a cash back card also which may offset some of the increased monthly cost.
Cheers

Did you know you can buy a ticket from any period from a month to a year? By never buying a monthly ticket and always getting one that ends on a Friday (often just two days later) you can save a lot of money.
By careful planning around holidays and bank holidays it's possible to end up paying less for these "odd period" tickets that you would for an annual one - and you don't need to come up with loads of money.
The other worry is if you spend 9k on a ticket and lose it (or have it stolen). They may reissue it once but any more than that and you need damned good/expensive house contents insurance to cover it.Can I help?0
