...and still they try...my wife took a call at ~ 6:30 last night from Nationwide re "free" cavity wall insulation-apparently we are recorded as not having had it done last year!

There is no "free insulation" or "free boilers" available to everyone now. Fact.

If any cold caller suggests otherwise, then what does this tell you about them or their methods.

The ECO is means tested with complex eligibility criteria and is for low income and vulnerable households only.

Any improvements funded by the Green Deal has to be repaid with interest via your energy bills. The charge is attached to your meter so the payments are made whether or not you change suppliers.
This is exactly how I understood the situation to be, thank you. I just wanted to confirm that there wasn't some other scheme that I was unaware of.

    Thanks for your replies, everyone!

Nationwide Energy have contacted my elderly mother and offered her a new boiler as she receives pension credits. Am I right in thinking that the cost would actually be added to her bills?

For information, somebody came knock on my door last November offering me my loft insulation for free. Don't remember the company but can find out (at work now). I was thinking it's a scam?

At the end , they did the loft insulation in February for free.

    - the Super Priority Groups under the old scheme [pre Green Deal & ECO] were entitled
    - I can't REM the exact date but it was around the 2nd week in Jan this year the funding ceased
    - anyone who signed up before that date was entitled, for example the work may not have happened till Feb or later

...Many people got free loft insulation and/or cavity wall insulation last couple of years - but the grant money ran out ~ mid December in my part of the country. You must have had your work approved before the deadline even tho' the work wasn't done til Feb.
As Herongull said earlier in the thread there is a new scheme - but its quite complex and requires claimants to be on some form of benefit or credits, so many people will not now qualify.

EDIT Richie beat me to it!!!
