Lidl Faulty Garden Arch

I purchased a metal garden arch from Lidl last week and when I tried to put it up at the weekend discovered that the thread had gone on one of the poles and the holes were in the wrong place on another so the item was completely unusable. I dont have the reciept unfortunately as I bought it along with some shopping and didnt think to keep it.
Just been in store to request a refund (or would have happily accepted a credit note) only to be told that there is absolutely nothing they can do if I dont have a reciept. I stated that the goods were faulty and that I had comsumer rights but was told again that without a reciept nothing could be done.
I suggested I could bring in a print out of my card statement which they said they would accept but as I bought it along with other items the amount obviously wont match the cost of the garden arch and I'm concerned that they will say they wont accept it.
The main problem they state is that they cant ascertain when I bought the item without the recipt, however as with all Lidl non-consumables it was only available for a short time (ie the last couple of weeks) so I think that point is a littlle weak really!

If they say they'll accept a card statement, then I cannot see the problem. Yes, the statement will show a higher value, but I imagine Lidl can grasp that concept.

Until they actually refuse the statement you have no problem.

Bear in mind that consumer legislation does not insist on a receipt being needed... just a proof of purchase.

Please post back if they do refuse the card statement.
