How to transfer US Dollars from USA to UK?

My friend is in the USA.
He has $8,000 of dollars (cash) and wants to transfer them to a person in the UK ... but but to keep in US Dollars.

Is it possible?
What's the best way to do it?

Only through wire transfer or there are other ways?
I think "Western Union" would force the money to be converted to GBP, correct?

The UK person will need a dollar account to hold it in dollars as far as I am aware.

The US person could then send a wire transfer through his bank or could write a check from his US bank account and the UK person can cash it in the UK Dollar account.
