Tax Credits Overpayment

Hi,
I have been having lots of trouble with my tax credits for almost two years now, since just after my first child was born in May 2005. After I had phoned them to change my details they cancelled my claim but this was error on their part. I was told by my local Inland Revenue office not to make a new claim but that thye would submit an M1 referral which would start my claim back up again but unfortunately this didn't work.
I went for a period of at least 6 months without receiving any payments at all, then started to receive manual payments. I phoned the helpline constantly but got nothing from them at all so I contacted my local MP's office and they got on the case for me. In May last year I got a call from the MP's secretary to tell me to expect a big fat pile of giros containing all back payments I was owed which was great.:T
I thought things were then sorted but next time I received an award notice I realised that they hadn't taken off the disability element and I had still been receiving these payments. I had informed them myself that I was no longer entitled to this element and the MP's office had told them the same on more than on occassion. The MP's office got onto them yet again. They are very slow at replying but are now saying that I owe them over £2000.
The MP's office has told them that I wish to dispute this. I then received a letter saying they would stop taking back overpayments even though they'd never said they were going to start doing so.
Anyway, after all that I was just wondering how many people have successfully disputed an overpayment and not had to pay them back? And how long I might have to wait for them to make a decision on whether I do have to pay this money back?
Thanks in advance, sorry this is so long.

i had the same problem with tc they wanted over £2000 back off me. I wrote a letter to them explaining that it was there fault the overpayments had been made and that i had contacted them on many occasions about this. they had my h working 40 hrs a week for nothing:mad: . It took about a year for them to sort this out but they then accepted it was there fault and i had to pay nothing to them.0
