Prague for 3 Days

Hi,

I am thinking of going to Prague for three days (flying out early morning on 27th April and coming back late on 29th April), just wanted to hear from someone who has already been to Prague like will 3 days be ok or bit pushy. Just want to cover some major attractions and change of environment.

I dont know, from where this came to my head but want to confirm if Prague is a bit racist town? Heard some stories but i think it same everywhere (their is always a one :(). I am an Indian Asian btw.

I had 3 days in Prague the weekend before last and had a great time. I can't say I noticed any racism or other trouble but to be on the safe side I'd avoid the bars and restaurants around the Old Square as that's where the stag and hen nights congregate. Go a few streets away and things are much quieter and a lot cheaper.

    Hi Doshwaster,

Can you suggest some nice places in Prague to visits please?

    Thanks
    Jay
  • Prague is a great city for 3 days. Everything is walkable but be warned 90% of it is cobbled so you will need decent shoes! Didnt notice any racism when we were there but we are white so probably wouldn't have noticed...

As to things to visit, it all becomes obvious when you get there. Head for the Charles Bridge at one end you will see the castle complex, a must see and worth the climb up the hill to get to. At the other end of the bridge you have the old town with the old town square where the Astronomical Clock is.

If you are feeling a little lazy then I'd take the bus/tram to the top of castle area then walk back down as it's a steep climb. There are loads of restaurants on the way down to stop for refreshments.

Otherwise one of the pleasures of Prague is just wandering around. The old city area is small and compact but it's maze of narrow cobbled streets and alleys. You will get lost but don't worry about it as you'll eventually come back to the main square.

The main problem for someone who is Indian would be if you were vegetarian. Czech food is not known for being veggie-friendly - it's mostly meat and dumplings washed down with lots of beer.

Prague is a lovely city for a short break and everything is easy to get through either wandering around or on the tram. The old town/astronomical clock area is really pretty as is the area down hill from the castle on the other side of the Charles Bridge...I really loved Lennonova Zed (a graffiti wall) and the little streets around there so it would be my 'must see'.

I think non-white people living in the Czech Republic probably do encounter a fair bit of racism, particularly if they are in smaller towns/cities. I think Prague is fairly forward thinking though. If you were wanting to stay and find work/fit into the community etc it would be different, but as a tourist you should be fine.

The Czech diet is very meat and potato/dumpling based but it isn't that hard to find places that serve western food and there are restaurants that serve all different cuisines in Prague (I've heard there is a fantastic curry place in the Old Town).
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

I went a few years ago, and we did a full day (6 hour) walking tour (including hopping on and off trams). It included lunch, and we got to see all of the main attractions. What was amazing was that the guide was only in her early thirties and she had first-hand knowledge of a lot of the history because so much has happened in recent years.
