Are you having a kid's table at the reception?

We're starting to think about our table plan  and we're wondering how everyone is seating kids at the reception.

We've got 13 children currently attending, from 6 months to 11 years old.

What age do you think they'd be able to sit by themselves? I know the little uns will stay with their parents obviously. The 11 year old is a good organiser :rotfl: but I'm not sure if she'd be able to control 8+ kids!! (The next oldest is around 7, the majority are 4-6.)

Not having kids ourselves it's hard to know what to do! If the average age was a bit older I'd go for it but I think I'm erring towards seating them with their parents as there'd be less running around that way!

We'd still be interested to know how everyone else is dealing with this though!

Hmmm. We don't have this problem as we don't have any little kids attending...there are a few toddlers, who obviously need to sit with their parents. We do have what I am terming a 'kids' table' but it is 15-19 year olds, so not exactly kids!

I would say if they were all a couple of years older then definitely do a kids' table but at the ages you have specified I think it might be difficult. I can imagine the parents feeling more stressed that their kids are not with them and feeling they have to keep going over to the table to check everything is ok.

I've got about 21 children, ages range from 4 months to teenage. Most likely I would leave them on tables with their parents, but am thinking of an outside entertainment for them after eating.

Party bags sounds like a real good idea.

We have around 15 kids coming but most are aged 2-3 so all will be sitting with parents. Oldest child is 6.

Sitting with their parents. I attended a wedding with my DD when she was 6. She was seated at a different table and the freedom went to her head. Kids can get tired and cranky at that age easily and weddings can be tough going for them. Keep them close to their parents so they can deal with them.

Thanks guys! Definitely gonna put them with their parents :D

    Another question;

We have the option to provide a kids meal, or a smaller portion of the adult meal.
As we have chosen steak and salmon I'm thinking that the kids meal is the safe option?

Also there is one child who is 14 months, and 2 around 18 months old. Would you provide meals for these or would the parents bring their own? I know our two year old niece will eat anything but can't remember when she went onto solids :rotfl:

I will have two toddlers who are a year old and the venue are doing mashed potato, well cooked vegetables and some chicken for them. We worked this out by discussing with their parents what they would eat :)

I think that the kids meal is probably the best choice. My almost 2 year old would prob eat the salmon but would probably prefer a kids meal.

For the 14 and 18 month olds I would ask the parents if they want a meal for them. I would have wanted one when she was that age as she has eaten similar to us for quite a while. I probably would have given her some of mine if she was under one though or took something myself.

We've got 10 children coming, they are just sitting with their parents. I can't understand why you would want to separate them from the adults.

We've also done party bags with a few little toys and colouring books.
