My Mum has been given a handful of 1 metre long fibre optic cable that looks quite high quality - gold contacts and all that. I haven't got a clue where to start looking whether they are useful to me (or her).
What are they for?
Thanks.

I can't imagine why a fibre optic cable would have a golden connector, it transmits photons and not electrons! If it does have golden contacts, it's probably NOT a n optical cable, although it can be a digital cable.
Check your hardware to see if some have optical connectors, and if you're going to connect some of them between them, or just sell them on eBay.0 -
It is a digital optical cable, and it is a fibre optic cable the only use for it is to connect 2 digital audio devices together.
I use a few of them, all connecing to my amplifier, cd player, mini disk and DVD player. There are varying qualities of cables I have paid a fortune for them but it is also possible to buy very in expensive ones and yes the cheap ones can also have gold tips on them. the better ones tend to be more flexible like rubber than the cheaper ones that seem to be harder less flexible.0 -
