Any potential drawbacks about going to Cyprus beginning of May?

We are going on 1st May to Cyprus. Bit worried now about this bank levy thing. After all the previous trouble in Greece I'm hoping there won't be any rioting in the streets.

Will it still be safe to go?

No one can give you a cast-iron guarantee. May 1st is almost six weeks away and the situation here is changing by the hour. There's likely to be some resolution, one way or the other, by the end of this week.

If there was an civil disturbance then it would be centered on Nicosia which is a long was from all the holiday resorts. And, when there are issues people go out of their way to insulate tourists against them. While most of the island had extended water cuts the tourist areas did not. When the power station blew up and the island suffered from rolling blackouts the tourist areas did not.

The tourists that I talked to this morning said they'd heard something on the news but really had no idea what was going on.

Consider the mix of credit vs debit vs cash you're going to bring and amend that if needed. But apart from that, wait and see what happens.

Edited to add: May 1 is actually a holiday in Cyprus so not everything will be open.

Just googled it and it's Labour Day which is probably pretty much the same thing as our May Day

May Day, Labour Day, International Workers Day. It's a holiday across most European countries and it's on the 1st rather than moving to the nearest Monday.

In a tourist area you probably won't notice it to be honest.

    Where are you off to?
