cradle cap and dry skin

hi, DD is 6 1/2 months and has cradle cap. i bought dentonox cradle cap shampoo but she is allergic to it and has given her dry skin behind her ears on on her neck and a really itchy scalp that she keeps scratching.
can anyone recommend a good shampoo or cream that i can use.
i have already tried olive oil and it didn't work that well so want to try something else.
thanks

persevere with the oil,it will work but not straight away

you need to repeat the treatment

leave it on overnight then very gently comb the flakes out the next morning

my eldest son had cradle cap until he was 4 ! even though i used all the treatments available he still got it in places ,until is suddenly cleared up yrs later!

Do you brush her hair? My HV advised doing this to prevent build up of dried skin. I'd never thought of this as my DS was practically bald at the time!! However it seemes to have helped and now at 11 months his scalp is pretty good. I never use shampoo or anything in his bath. HV also said many cradle cap treatments are too harsh for babies skin. Let us know how you get on with the olive oil.

When she is in/just out of the bath try rubbing her scalp with a wet flannel with small cirular movements. My DD did complain but it worked after about a week or so it was much better. Or try it after the olive oil

    should be fine.
I used to rub olive oil on, get in the bath with my daughters and with a wee baby toothbrush do a circular motion and rub the flakes off. My girls loved it!! It was really relaxing for them. Good excuse to get in the bath with your baby too!

Try oilatum for the skin on her neck and behind her ears. There's a special baby lotion.
  • i've got a sample of avent baby massage gel and it says you can use it for cradle cap, i keep meaning to try it.

roo's got worse around his birthday, peaked at around 18 months and now at 20 months i reckon 75% of it has just gone away without treatment. he hates his head or hair being touched so i tend to just leave it alone. the GP says it's not an infection and it isn't bothering him. he scratches when his hair gets long so i've had his curls lopped 4 times so far.

I had serious dermatitis as an infant and my hair fell out in clumps, I had to see a dermatologist and everything. Eventually it cleared up with steroid lotions but my hair never did grow back properly.

If shop-bought lotions and home remedies aren't working then I recommend taking your baby to the doctor, she might need a prescription. Don't forget that children's prescriptions are free, which would be better than buying this and that in the hopes that it works.

Good luck and I hope she's feeling better soon.

I used Castor oil for both of mine straight after a bath, so it can absorb better. Just a wee amount will do the trick, hth, goodluck :)
No one said it was gonna be easy!
