So nice to hear people having suich positive experiences of childrens centres and provisions. I use to work closely with a sure start centre, and indeed many parents siad the same thing there. I also know of quite a few parents who now help out as volunteers and increase thier skills at childrens centres - which is excellent :T

Great to see they are moneysaving as well ;)

My OH used to work at Farmer Palmers :D did you have a great time?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Thank you for that! :D Farmer Palmers is soooooo cool (although we do have a bit of an issue with tantrums getting off the tractor trailer ride). I've used surestart a little bit and the site itself is very good for finding childcare etc. One of my friends is doing the phonix course and says it's fab.
Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early :D

    Ditto.

I work as an administrator in a London Children's Centre, and it is so rewarding supporting a talented multi-disciplinary team of health and childcare professionals, and seeing the good they do with young families.

Eventually there will be a children's centre in every ward in the country, but they are building them in the most needy wards first.

In my borough, the children's centres are in the most needy wards, and our activities are aimed at the families living in those areas with children under 5. However we do have certain activities that are open all borough residents. We also have waiting lists for other activities where if not enough people from the Children's Centre areas are interested, we can open it up to families from the rest of the borough. So if you have a Children's centre in your area, please go and check it out to see what they have on offer.

Activities that my borough provides includes:

    Baby group
    Toddler group
    Toy library and play session
Arts and Craft then story session
    Toddler football
Weaning and fussy eaters cookery courses
    Parent courses
    Women's group
    Dad's club
    Coach trips

All of the above is free or heavily subsidised.

Also fast access to a midwife, a paediatric dietician, health visitors, family support workers, and a speech and language therapist.

    Any questions just ask. :)
