Rome for couple (elderlyish)

Evening all
Rome is not a city I am familiar with and have used Trip Advisor etc as a guide. Thinking of somewhere near a train stop (as they are getting on a bit yet mobile).
Can anyone either recommend a nice hotel (special occasion) or an area where nice restaurants that is quiet etc to narrow this down a bit?
Need to travel from Airport so that is a consideration for public transport.
Budget is fairly generous (approx. £300 a night) but more I give in Euros the better for spends. Couple are average couple, it's meant to be a spoiler for them, but don't want to go too OTT where they feel outside of comfort zone. Any additional information needed to advise more please ask.

I don't know if you're totally fixed on Rome but I can recommend this company

I did the Classical Spain one last year and it was absolutely great. Just the right mix of guided bits and free time.
They do one that includes Rome.0 -
Most weeks there's a thread about Rome so it might be worth scrolling down a few pages and/or using the 'search' for previous ideas0

For goodness sake, as it's a special occasion, let them have enough money for a taxi!!No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
