Help - getting rid of popups

Options
I keep getting the following popup, xadsj.offer http://search-offeroptimizer.com. Which are really annoying can anyone tell how to get rid of them? I am using xp and have ad-adware6 and splyblaster. Could anyone advise me of a good firewall program? thanks

Make sure you have the latest IE6 updates, or instead use Mozilla Firefox. They should both block any unsolicited popups.

You can also try going through a local proxy using an apllication called Proxymitron (which is free). It is basically an application your browser will connect to the web via instead of connecting directly itself. Then when you request a page, upon the response, Proxymitron filters out any popups etc... before serving the page to your browser. It basically acts as a middle man between your browser and the web. Again if you get Mozilla Firefox, or the latest IE6 then similar functionailty should be included.

If you want to try a firewall, have a look at Kerio Personal Firewall (http://www.kerio.com/kpf_home.html). It does have a popup blocker too, but I think you have to register (pay) for that functionality.

One of the best free firewalls is Zone Alarm, you can download it from the following link...http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp
it also offers you a free spyware check too. But for more permanent antispyware protection Microsoft Antispy is also a free download:http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
Those two combined should get rid of it!fingers crossed.:money:

if you are running Windows Xp then you will need to boot into safe mode to run these, before you shut down the computer to reboot to safe mode go to Control Panel then Internet options and delete the temporary internet files

Try downloading Microsoft Anti-Spyware, I find this to be more effective than the two programs you are using, and I have seen online reviews which confirm this. I would also use SpywareBlaster from https://www.javacoolsoftware.com (which only needs to be run once every so often) which is a program that tries to prevent spyware even being able to try and install in the first place.

As for firewalls Zonealarm is the best firewall for users who don't know too much about computers. If you have a greater understanding of computers/internet then Agnitum Outpost Firewall and Tiny Firewall are the most secure firewalls I know of.
