Cheapest cleaning liquid to use in a Vax

Hi
I've just been lucky to get an almost new Vax Rapide Carpet Washer at a really cheap price, I was just wondering if there's a cheap cleaning solution I can use with it or do I have to use the Vax one?

If so does anyone know the cheapest place to buy it?

A carpet specialist told us to try cleaning with just water first and only use detergent if that doesn't work. Detergent sticks to the carpet fibres and attracts dirt which is why once a carpet has been cleaned it gets dirtier quicker so if you do end up using detergent make sure you rinse well.

I used the 1001 carpet shampoo which was being sold off cheap in home bargains at the time. I found some that was specifically for use carpet cleaners, but I'm sure I've read somewhere on here that you can use the ordinary carpet shampoo as long as you also put something in that acts as a defoamer otherwise it ends up looking like an ibizan foam party.
There a thread on here somewhere if i can find it.
If you do decide to stick with vax, shop around. There's a huge variation in prices between stores. Check out wilkinsons, and B&Q sometimes have offers on as well.
