The numbers are indisputable, SP added up the (estimate) AND (actual) sums, and my account shows I am due an outrageous £345.52.

It certainly does look like they've added up the costs that the estimated reading on 14/3 generated to the actual on 18/3, where you would expect something like the effect of the estimate and actual readings from December 2012.
I'd still get SP to offer an explanation for it.

I'm still a bit confused by your 3 meter readings, when is off-peak if it's not day or night? Do you have some sort of economy 10 type tariff?

    Correction:
I see the arithmetic for December 2012 now, where the estimate and actual seem to have been added together. You really need to look at the kWh used for the billings for the 3 meter readings. It might be the estimates were way too low. It's confusing dealing with just the monetary values against the dates.

Victor2, thank you for posting the actual screenshot for me.

As you see, when one would expect the actual reading to replace the estimate, they are ADEED UP. As of 19/03/13 my account is due £345.52 which is £184.07 + £161.45

This before on 13/12/12, but I haven't then noticed the error and paid the whole sum. At that date, I had £81.00 credit in my account so my payment of £186.88 covered the difference £135.58 + £132.30 - £81.00 = £186.88

The £132.20 should be £132.30, which explains the 10p.
However, I would definitely look at the detail behind the amounts - it does say you can click on the relevant amount to do that.
I would expect to see an amount calculated for the difference between the estimate and actual reading which followed it. Only the readings used will tell you if that's what they've done.

  • Victor2, that was a good point, and after looking at the estimated readings the mystery was solved.

The consumption estimated by SP happened to be roughly half of what I actually consumed. So the bill produced from my actual readings was within 10% or so from their estimate not because this was supposed to replace the estimate (as I expected), but because SP's estimates were constantly ~1/2 of my consumption.

On 18/03/13 they've estimated 32177, 21612, 7902 (from my 12/12 readings of 31070, 20990, 7706) and I've submitted 33627, 22239, 8035. That means the actual bill should be ADDED to their initial estimate.

I would like to thank to everyone who helped solve the mystery, apologies to SP and David for the premature accusations, and I'd say it was really useful to join this forum.
